The weather in Guatemala is much less variable than in the United States, in my town we talk about just the rainy season (May to September) and the dry season (October to April) with some folks telling me that January is the coldest month while others say it is September! As such, it doesn’t feel quite like autumn here, (I’m sure that will change as the corn fields dry out), in the Land of Eternal Spring, Guatemala’s nickname, and it can be easy to forget that the U.S. is in the middle of a Presidential election.

When I stopped by Peace Corps headquarters in Santa Lucia Milpas Altas (SLMA) for my flu shot weeks ago, some other volunteers happened to be in the office and we received special permission to watch the first Presidential debate at SLMA a little past closing time. We even ordered a pizza, and I’ll have to say this was probably the most memorable time I’ve had watching a Presidential debate!
